SEASON 3: EPISODE 01CROSSFIRE: Prologue |

Rachel knew she was dreaming. It was a dream she had before but one where she was merely a passenger in her body. She had no control over what happened but she could sense surface thoughts or at least partial thoughts of her “dreamself”, that added to her feelings of been a passenger. Before her spread out the entire universe, it was something that she could hardly fathom but she knew it was everything there was. The unending universe was before her with an uncountable number of lights everywhere that represented whole galaxies of stars. She stretched out her hand as if to call something to her and space around her moved until all that was before her was a single anonymous spiral galaxy. She watched it loop through all of time. From its birth to its death the galaxy was in a continuous loop. Then something changed and the galaxy’s future was different. With a thought time slowed and she watched the galaxy closely. She knew it was changing, but could not see it, in fact it all looked the same from where she stood but she could feel it was different…it was wrong. Next to her she heard whisperings; voices see could not make out no matter how hard she listened. Despite this she seemed to know what they were saying. With the flick of her wrist the galaxy appeared to fly at her and she seemed to travel through it. She finally stopped at a planet that was like thousands of others in this galaxy and her dreamself seemed to not even recognise it. It was like many other life supporting planets in the galaxy, but this one for some reason was important…though not to her dreamself. Rachel felt the opposite for the planet, it was Earth, her birthplace. Her dreamself was meant to find someone here for something. She zoomed into the planet atmosphere and hit the cloud cover as she closed in on her target. She then suddenly found herself standing in a busy public area. People moved, talked, lived around her but did not seem to see her. She walked forward and approached the person she was looking for from behind. She reached out her hand and grabbed his shoulder… Rachel Daley woke with a start. The details of her dream quickly blurred, no matter how much she tried to recall the key details of the dream they eluded her. She then realised that the dream had ended prematurely. She had had this dream many times before and always it ended the same. She would find the person she was looking for and despite the fact his face was a blur she always ended it with him. Not tonight, something was wrong. She could feel it. Then she realised what it was. She had this feeling before, it felt like it originated from the pit of her stomach and filled her with dread. She knew the feeling, Captain Masters was in trouble. Something deep inside her seemed to know when he was in trouble despite huge distances between them. This was that feeling, only much stronger then she had felt before. Rachel’s hand came to her chest and she scrunched her top in her fist. She was almost in a panic. Her breathing was fast and shallow and she thought she was going to faint. Her thumping heart filled her ears. This feeling was overwhelming her, she needed help. She got to her feet and walked unsteadily to the door. She opened it and stumbled outside. Marine guards were on duty at all times wandering the ship and one of the Marines on duty was in the hallway. She pulled herself along the wall towards him. He spotted her. “Are you alright, Major?” asked the Marine noticing her distress. Rachel tried to speak but she could not form the words between her gasps for air. She felt her legs go slack and Rachel slid down the wall onto the floor. The Marine rushed to her. “Major! MAJOR! Sickbay, I have a medical emergency, Major Daley is having some sort of attack!” Rachel could not hear the reply over the sound of her our breathing and her thundering heart.
