SEASON 2: EPISODE 04

CHANGE IN COMMAND: Prologue

  “Damage report!” called Captain Jonathan Masters as another EPS unit erupted above him.

  “Shields are holding.  We have reports of power disruptions all over the ship,” reported Lieutenant Karak.  His claim Vulcan was in stark contrast to what was going on around him

  The USS Swiftfire-A was part of a small strike force of ships from Task Force 59 that had been sent on a mission into Dominion control space to attack a relatively minor Jem’Hadar breeding centre not too far from the Kalandra Sector.  The Dominion had significantly increased its war effort in recent weeks, engagements between Federation/Klingon ships and Dominion/Cardassian ships were almost non-stop.  The target was meant to be a soft target, not too well defended but it would hamper Dominion efforts in that area of space, since any new Jem’Hadar would have to come from other areas of Dominion-Cardassian space.  It was a good plan.

  Unfortunately it didn’t go anywhere close to plan.  The strike force reached the system with the Dominion base and was immediately engaged by a significant perimeter patrol.  More enemy ships had joined the attack and now the strike force was fighting an enemy that was far stronger then they were prepared to face.  The Swiftfire had gotten itself into a battle with a number of Dominion and Cardassian vessels, including a Keldon class cruiser, one that it was losing.

  “That Keldon is ripping us apart!” yelled Commander Core.

  “Take it out!” ordered Masters.  “All weapons target the Keldon’s forward…”  The ship rocked violently and Masters heard an explosion on the bridge, then something hit him in the head and he blacked out.
